Having three girls, there are things that as a man you just know, or don’t know.
I’ve been thinking about this for sometime and have come up with a list of things they’ve taught me.
Sometimes it’s just observing their bizarre womanly ways and sometimes I get a hands-on lesson.
- I can spot a Vera Bradley handbag from 100 paces. (yeah, I know. Scary)
- Orlando Bloom is hot, but Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) is way hotter.
- Folding laundry is quite natural now except when it comes to folding a bra.
- “I love you, Daddy,” loosely translated means, “I need something and you will get it for me.”
- Girls can be downright nasty to each other.
- Nothing dries tears quicker than a trip to Hollister.
- They know the ins and outs of Itunes way better than I do.
- They can use the T9 word when texting on their cell enabling them to send me the “Gettysburg Address” in less time than it takes me to text the word, “Ok” and hit send.
- There are countless stars in the sky, but every one has its place.
- Never honestly comment on a new hairstyle. Just say, “It looks very nice.”
- Not all facial moisturizers are created equal.
- Patience. (4 women getting ready to go out for a Saturday evening is excruciating)
Look for a future post and update.
Learning about women is an ongoing process and I’m still a beginning student, apt but beginning.

You rock, Michael! Surely Heaven holds special places for men who raise daughters! I was raised in a one-bathroom-house with two sisters and a brother, so I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Banana Republic dries tears, too. 😉
I like the cat picture, M. I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve been by.

I loved this. Hopefully, Dave will be over this way. This should give him some tips for the future.

1 wife, 3 daughters, yet only 12 things? hmm….you and mark really need to discuss this more….he has 1 wife, 5 daughters, a grandaughter PLUS an ex wife, so his knowledge is boundless…you could maybe pick up some little hints and tips?
now there’s a thought! you know how women have little kitchen tip books? maybe you, mark and other fathers of daughters could get together and write “hints and tips for the survival of men living with women”….no doubt it would be a best seller!
be fricking huge though!

The picture is so perfect for your family! I loved the one about text messaging. This one happens to me frequently, but I’m learning. I have no choice.
You’re a great dad! 🙂

You poor, poor soul! My dad ‘only’ had to deal with two daughters and a wife and I’ve heard him ‘complain’ about that for years.
Nowadays, I think he misses us daughters and quite frankly, going out on Saturdays, he still has to wait way too long for Mum to get ready. 🙂

This was so wonderful. I had to go away and come back before commenting, because all I could think of to say was, “This was so wonderful.” That’s still the case– sorry. 🙂

The last one is probably the most important, but I laughed really when I read the Vera Bradley thing and the T9Word.
But, seeing as I am female… Number one is definitely impressive.

Exactly .. facial moisturizer is very important.
And don’t waste time folding bras 😐

Bras are like maps: not designed to be folded more than once.

This is soooo true. Being a woman myself I know this! :o)
My daughter has taught me that hair straighteners are as important as eating….
My son is just as bad, being a metrosexual he sure can hold that bathroom for longer than my daughter and I put together… not forgetting that his girlfriend practically lives at our house too!
I feel your pain. :o)
.
Bras are not meant to folded are they?

Great list! My dad was in a house with 2 daughters and a wife. We always joked about why he was so quiet all the time. Probably because he rarely got a word in edge wise-lol.
Now I’m out numbered. 2 sons and hubby. I wonder what my list will be in a few years? ;).

Man, you are seriously freaking me out. I have my 2nd on the way and I have this rising suspicion she wants to keep trying until she has a boy.
It’s not the trying part that I am worried about. It’s being successful.
Reading this post has scared the crap out of me. Is this what I have to look forward to? I shall print this post and keep it with me, as a sort of Cliff Notes manual type of thing.
